Monroe Ave Bus Will Still Service Village of Pittsford

RTS unanimously approved its proposed Reimagine RTS service plan today.

To read the background on the RTS redesigned service plan, go to our previous posts:

  • Update on Pittsford’s Place In RTS Redesign
  • Why We Need the Bus in Pittsford
  • Here’s what the final plan for Pittsford looks like:

The Monroe Ave bus route (currently #47) from the City will continue through the Village. It will now be Route 11. It will take a left on N. Main St. and continue all the way up the St. John Fisher Park & Ride (at 31F). (Currently, it turns right on S. Main Street and turns around at the Pittsford Loop just outside the Village line. )

As with the draft plan presented earlier, Pittsford Eastview will be a Community Mobility Zone [see map below]. Areas in that zone will be serviced by RTS On Demand Service, which is a smaller vehicle (instead of the big 40 foot bus).

RTS On Demand service will operate based on customer requested trips, serving any number of origins and destinations within each CMZ. RTS On Demand trips are curb-to curb based on requested customer origin and destination. There is no set route or schedule like a conventional transit service. Customers can use the on demand service within a CMZ to make a complete trip, or connect to fixed route service at either a Connection Hub or fixed route bus stop for travel outside the CMZ. RTS On Demand customers can request a ride through the RTS mobile app, the RTS website, or by calling the RTS customer call center.

RTS will operate the RTS On Demand service with RTS-owned accessible vehicles and with an RTS vehicle Operator. This will be the public transit option for each CMZ.

Fares within the Community Mobility Zone:

    • Connect to or from an RTS Bus Stop: $1
    • Curb to Curb Service within the zone: $3

The St. John Fisher park & ride (the light blue dot on the map) will be the connection hub for the Pittsford Eastview Community Mobility Zone. The connection hub is where the fixed service starts and ends. Riders will then rely on the RTS On Demand service explained above . Scroll down and you will see a list of service hours for the Pittsford Eastview Zone.

New YMCA: In the previous draft plan presented in the community input session, the new YMCA location was not included in the Community Mobility Zone. It is now included in the final approved plan.

One of the big concerns in the public input sessions was the impact to Urban-Suburban students. Students attending Sutherland High School will still be able to rely on the Monroe Ave fixed route service and are also within the Community Mobility Zone on demand service area. We don’t yet have details on what the new service means for the Pittsford Mendon Urban-Suburban students. As soon as we have more information, we will update you.

To see an interactive map of the community mobility zones and the entire RTS system, visit the Reimagine RTS Service Plan. You can zoom in and around the map to to figure out what is an isn’t included that may impact how you currently get around by bus.

Paratransit Service: There will be 3 levels of Paratransit Service [see map below]. If you currently rely on this service, we recommend reading about the levels of service beginning on page 36 of the RTS Service Plan Final Report. If you live in that gray area on the map: “Supplemental service in Level 3 will be based on availability. Reservations can be made up to one day in advance, but trips are not guaranteed. ” Email me or leave a comment below if you need help figuring out what it means for the service you currently rely on.

There is a lot to digest about the current plan. We tried to give you a topline view of Pittsford’s place in the new RTS system, which will roll out in 2020. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
