Walking & Biking Adventure: Little Free Libraries of Pittsford

Have you begun to notice these Little Free Libraries, or Book Exchanges, popping up in Pittsford? Last year the Town put out guidelines to help residents who would like to host one and since then, we’ve spotted even more. These “take a book, return a book” exchanges are often small wooden boxes of books, hosted by a family or organization. And they are fun to explore, no matter your age. We’ve found treasures for everyone in our family, and it’s always such a treat to see what kind of book you might get to bring home.

In addition to being a great spot to snag a new read, in many communities these book exchanges also contribute to walkable neighborhoods, community interaction and connectedness, as they serve as gathering spots for casual meet-ups and conversation amongst neighbors–all things that contribute to vibrant communities.

Here’s the current list of Little Free Libraries that we know of. If you know of more, leave a comment and we’ll add to the list, and we’ll bring some books by to share.

This list is a great excuse to plan an informal walking or biking tour around Pittsford, visiting different neighborhoods and seeing the book exchanges. Last summer Kidical Mass Pittsford did a Little Free Library bike ride where families dropped off books and picked up new ones while exploring different parts of Pittsford.

The Pittsford Community Library has been very supportive of these exchanges–it offers them the discarded books no longer in circulation. Just one more reason our local library rocks!

That one on the canal path at 67 State Street is my family’s favorite. 🙂

Thanks for putting this list and map together, Brooke!
