Driver Falls Asleep, Rolls Truck at Eastview Terrace/E. Jefferson in Village

There was another rollover on our Village streets in the early morning on December 23rd. If you recall, the last one was on S. Main Street during the morning commute in May. This latest one was at 3am, so there weren’t people out on the street like there were in May.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and no one else was involved. There was property damage at 18 Eastview Terrace (where you see the orange cones in the top left of the photo) and our beloved pedestrian crossing sign (the one that is supposed to alert drivers to driver cautiously) was destroyed.

According to the police report, the driver was going from Victor to Henrietta through the village. The driver fell asleep momentarily, drove up into the yard at 18 Eastview Terrace, drove over the boulders and bushes, tried to correct the direction of the vehicle, which caused it to rollover and stop on its passenger side in the intersection of Eastview Terrace and E. Jefferson Rd. The driver was working — he was salting commercial plaza parking lots. He hadn’t slept well and dozed off when he was driving. No alcohol was involved.

He was issued citations for:

  • moving from the lane unsafely
  • failing to use the designated lane
  • property damage
  • and 2 others for which I can’t find the details (will update this post when I get the descriptions)

These are neighborhood streets that people live along. The driver was out earlier than usual and was salting plazas to make them safe for people who would be using them in the morning. And along the way, he fell asleep, putting himself and others in danger. Luckily, the boulders and bushes startled him awake and he and those that live around here are okay.
