Public Information Session: February 13 at Pittsford Town Hall
Back in June, we told you about the draft recommendations set forth for the new design of the RTS system (otherwise known as Re-imagine RTS). RTS is trying to serve the people who need the bus the most in the areas they need it the most, and doing it with ever-dwindling funding for that system. That means tightening it up to provide better access and frequency to those areas and those people. And it means big changes for our village and Pittsford.
Need a refresher course on why we need the bus here? Take a gander over here…
Community stakeholders met recently with RTS to discuss Pittsford as one of the possible Community Mobility Zones and what that might look like. I joined other stakeholders, who included a whole team from RTS, Supervisor Smith, local employers, the colleges, Superintendent of Pittsford Schools, the Director of the Urban Suburban Program, and the Urban-Suburban Program parent representative.
What we know thus far:
- The big traditional 40-foot buses you are used to seeing on Monroe Ave and Main St in the Village will no longer be used beyond Pittsford Plaza. That’s where the hub will likely be. Riders will switch to some other vehicle at that point to get where they need to be elsewhere in the Town and beyond.
- The town, parts of Perinton and Victor would be in a single zone. The borders of that zone are still in flux. They were originally drawn based on the current bus routes.
- There are lots of different options being explored. It may be Flex type of vehicle on a regular route, one that can be used on demand or a hybrid of that. It may be a shuttle or some public-private partnership. Everything is being explored at this point.
- Para-transit and solutions for Urban-Suburban Program students are being given priority.
What’s next?
There will be a public input session in February. We will alert you when that is scheduled.
There are a lot of moving parts and a lot still up in the air, as this was the first meeting with stakeholders. Feel free to comment with any questions or drop me an email. I’ll to my best to answer any questions.
