[Update: The Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2019 and is available on the Village of Pittsford website.]
The Village of Pittsford is updating its Comprehensive Plan. The last Comprehensive Plan update was in 2002. It’s a a good idea for plans to be updated every decade or so to assure the desired vision of the community is still reflected.
Mayor Robert Corby:
With its roots in the heritage of 19th century, the Village of
Pittsford has evolved into a hugely desirable destination in
which to live, do business and enjoy a variety of
attractions. It will be the charge of the Comprehensive
Plan Update Steering Committee to identify the challenges
and opportunities the 21st century brings while protecting
those important assets that make our community unique.
What Is a Comprehensive Plan?
It provides the vision for the future. It establishes a community’s goals and objectives. It guides policies about land use (this is a big one for the village), transportation, parking, recreation, development, historic preservation, utilities, etc. It is the foundation for the zoning code. The Village will be updating its zoning code concurrently.
Most Comp Plan updates take about 18 months, and the process includes several public input sessions and surveys to assure the community has ample opportunity to express its thoughts.
Who Is on the Comprehensive Plan Committee?
The committee is comprised of volunteer residents, business owners and leaders from the Town and Village. Several on the committee were also part of the 2002 plan. Read the full list on the Village website. Here is a photo from the Village newsletter:
The Town is finishing up its Comp Plan update, as well. You can learn about it here. At that first public envisioning session for that plan, it was clear how important the village as the heart of the town is to both town and village residents. Almost every group underscored a future vision where the town is connected to its center (the village) and the need to maintain the unique historic character. Here is the “vision board” from the group at my table from that first meeting in 2015:
